How to Continue to Run 32 Bit
32-bit programs CAN ALWAYS run on 64-bit devices. Just install it like you install any 64-bit program. I have Adobe Reader DC 32-bit on my 64-bit device. I don't know if they have 64-bit version, but never mind. Not exactly related to your issue.
But, 64-but can't run on 32-bit devices.
It's easy to ride down a hill while it's hard to climb the hill back up.
Like that, it's easy to malfunction a computer while it's hard to fix it.

Hi RonLewis6,
I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.
A 32-bt program should be able to run in a 64-bit system without any problem.
If the program is old I suggest that you run in compatibility mode.
Refer to the link below.

Let me know if you encountered any issues.
Thanks.

Hi, Joe13 B, and thanks for your reply. I don't know if I've maybe messed things up here but, because the Surface Pro can't take the installation CD, I've copied the CD onto a large capacity USB stick. I've adjusted the compatibility of the following files to XP Version 3 (Autorun.exe, Setup.exe and Msetup.exe) and also ticked the Run as Administrator box, but still installation still won't even begin no matter which one of those I click on - just this error message each time "The program feature [File address] cannot start or run due to incompatability with 64-bit version of Windows. Please contact software vendor... " (regarding a 64-bit version).
There's another pop-up window behind the main one that states "Could not find [file name] program."
Program is a late 90's CAD product.
Ron

Can you try running the setup from the CD (if you haven't already)? I installed my NFS from the CD because I guess the installation files were burnt to the CD. Also, right-click the setup program > click on Compatibility tab > change compatibility to the Windows version which it's compatible with. Then try running the setup.

Hi, Paul, and thanks for your reply. I don't know if I've maybe messed things up here but, because the Surface Pro has no CD/DVD player facility, I've copied the CD onto a large capacity USB stick, inserted and expanded it. Then I've adjusted the compatibility of the following files to XP Version 3 (Autorun.exe, Setup.exe and Msetup.exe) and also ticked the Run as Administrator box, but installation still won't even begin no matter which one of those files I click on - just this error message each time "The program feature [File address] cannot start or run due to incompatability with 64-bit version of Windows. Please contact software vendor... " (regarding a 64-bit version).
At the same time, there's another pop-up window behind the main one that states "Could not find [file name] program."
The program I'm trying to install is a late 90's CAD product.

Hi Ron,
My name is Igor, I have 12 Microsoft MVP awards. It's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you. I'm sorry you have a problems.
Sorry for bad news but likely you program is not compatible with new display driver model the Windows 10 uses.
You may use some virtual machine and install Windows 98 or Windows XP into it. Then install and run your program in this virtual system. Unfortunately this requires a separate Windows 98 or XP license.

Hi, Igor, and thank you for your reply. I think I have to accept that this program is not workable in Windows 10, as you have advised. That outcome was always in the back of my mind anyway, and it is good for someone as knowledgeable as you to confirm that doubt for me. Thanking you once again.
Ron
